Picture yourself holding a really fragile blown glass vessel. You drop it and it hits the ground, shattering into tens of hundreds of pieces. Sharp, rough shards of glass. If you’re sentimental you might be upset as you pick up the mess and throw it in the trash. Bonus points if you’d find another purpose for it (there are definitely ideas on Pinterest, I’ve checked). After you sweep it up with a broom, you’ll have to vacuum as well as there will be some pieces so small that you cannot even see them with the naked eye, and just to be thorough after you both sweep and vacuum you’ll mop too. Finally, your floor is clean, but you are saddened by the loss of that gorgeous vase (especially if you didn’t re-purpose it).
You are that fragile glass vessel. You have the ability to be beautiful and to hold beautiful things, also you can fall to the ground and shatter. You can be beautiful but you can also be broken. The brokenness enhances your beauty if you allow God to use it.
God sees you as beautiful. You are His own special, unique creation- God only made one of you and let me tell you, He loves you.
Jeremiah 31:3 – “…I have loved you with and everlasting love; therefore, I have continued to extend faithful love to you.”
This verse is just one example- God tells us as His children over and over how much He loves us. He also shows us how much He loves us. To Him, you are one of a kind- something precious and to be cherished. That’s how He feels about you and me- we are His wonderful creations, each of us with a purpose. For instance, that vessel was painstakingly made to hold flowers and water and not leak. If the artisan labored over making the vase, surely God labored over you. He set you on this world with a purpose that you alone were created for.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you- this is the Lord’s declaration- plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
God made you a one of a kind person inside and out. Just like a blown glass vessel you are one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. Now, you don’t have to tell me, but if you are like me you are beyond insecure. Society makes us sitting ducks for the whole “not pretty enough” and I know my self-esteem takes hits every day of my life. If you know anything about blown glass, it has plenty of imperfections too- air pockets throughout the glass, but when you look at it there is something rapturous about the imperfections it holds. God knows that you and I are not perfect, but He looks at those imperfections, at the things we nit-pick ourselves for and He sees us as beautiful.
All your flaws, all your scars, all your imperfections are the most captivating piece about you. Just like the artisan blowing glass, God is proud of you- His beautiful masterpiece. You are a work of art.
If you still doubt God’s love for you, read Mark 15&16.
